Lovely news from the USA as Dear Mrs Bird has been voted into the shortlist for LibraryReads' 2018 Favorite of Favorites.
Hugest thanks to all the public library staff who have voted, and actually for all their wonderful support for DMB since it was published in the US in July. It was wonderful to be one of July's top 10 novels and this is the icing on the cake!
Like so many other people, I grew up surrounded by books, in no small part because of my local public library here in the UK. Every Saturday we would head into town to get a new set of books (invariably about ponies!) and I spent many, many happy hours sitting on the floor in the Children's Section, reading as much as I could before narrowing that week's choice down to four glorious novels.
I don't know about the USA, but here in the UK, libraries are an increasingly precious (and threatened) service. It is a real joy to think that Dear Mrs Bird is on shelves both here, in the US and in more and more other countries, and will be accessible to as many people as possible.
Thank you so much, LibraryReads!
