The audio version of Dear Mrs Bird has just been recorded! I am particularly thrilled as Picador’s audio manager Becky Lloyd managed to get the wonderful Anna Popplewell to do the read. And I hope you are going to love it.
You may know Anna from the Narnia movies, or Reign on Netflix, but this week she has been bringing Emmy, Bunty and all the DMB characters to life. I went down to the studio to listen just as Anna was reading one of the sad parts of the book (I don’t think that’s too much of a spoiler) and I have to say she reduced me to tears within minutes. It was just beautiful, and tremendously moving.
But don’t panic as I promise that the funny bits are really funny. Anna said she had to stop a few times as she was laughing, so I am taking that as a good sign. I think Emmy and Bunty have been captured perfectly, and I have to say that Mrs Bird is formidable!
A few days later, and after all the crucial stuff was done, I went back to the studio to record an Author’s Note, which gives some information about what influenced me in writing Dear Mrs Bird. It was great fun and I managed it first time through. I don’t think Anna has much to worry about though…
So, huge thanks to Anna, Becky and all the team for making the audio happen. I can’t wait for everyone to get to hear it.
It’s will be available to buy on 5 April and you can pre-order it here.
